lesson 5: the national
public sacrifice, for the blessing of world peace Chimes "The State holds a public sacrifice and
establishes a code of law. Casting this precious tripod, sacrificing our
national mourning." On December 13, 1937, the Japanese army invaded
Nanjing, and then created the tragic Nanjing Massacre, in which 300,000 Chinese
compatriots were killed. The history of Nanking, the memory of humanity. Today,
the fourth National Memorial Day for the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre, China
once again commemorates its compatriots with a solemn public ceremony. The
Chinese people will always remember the history of the Nanjing Massacre and
work together with peace-loving and justice-loving people around the world to
maintain peace. Don't let Nanking disappear from people's
memory," is the title of a long article on the Nanjing Massacre recently
published by the Boston Globe and Mail. Eighty years after the Nanjing
Massacre, righteous people around the world are still remembering the victims
in different ways. In October 2017, the Parliament of Ontario, Canada, passed a
motion to establish a Nanjing Massacre Remembrance Day; libraries in San Diego,
U.S., are hosting events to tell people about the Nanjing Massacre; and the
recently inaugurated memorial to American physician Robert Wilson on the
streets of California is filled with flowers. --He was the first witness to the
Nanking Massacre at the Tokyo Trials; in Japan, a study group of high school
and university teachers recommended that words such as "Nanking
Massacre" be included in textbooks... ...a history that cannot be
forgotten! But it is also clear that in Japan, right-wingers are
still stubborn in their denial of history. In September 2017, the San Francisco
City Council unanimously passed a bill to establish a "Comfort Women's
Day", but the mayor of Osaka, a right-wing city in Japan, said he wanted
to dissolve the relationship between Osaka and San Francisco. ...... Today,
when there are less than 100 survivors of the Nanjing Massacre, the Japanese
right-wing continues to find various excuses to deny the militaristic crimes of
those years, distort history, glorify the war, reverse black and white, and
attempt to resurrect militarism through constitutional amendments. Those people
are trying to humiliate the conscience of human beings with their scandalous
performances. History does not change with the change of time, and
facts do not disappear because of clever denials. In November 2017, the Geneva
Conference on Disarmament disqualified Japan's peace lecture; the UN Human
Rights Council made 218 recommendations, criticizing Japan's attitude on the
history issue and demanding that Japan "face up to history and should
strive to tell future generations the true history ". The Nanjing Massacre
has long been the collective memory of all the forces of justice, but only the
Japanese right-wingers are still talking about it in their dreams. The long
sounding alarm bell of the National Day of Sacrifice is deafening , and those
sinful souls who pretend to sleep and sleepwalk have nowhere to hide. In 80 years, the sea has changed. on December 18,
1937, the New York Times wrote in a story, "Mass Looting, Assault on
Women, Killing of Civilians ...... The Japanese army has turned Nanking into a
city of terror." In September 2017, the International Association of
Cities for Peace announced that Nanjing was an "International City of
Peace." Fred Armentrout, executive director of the International
Association of Peace Cities program, noted that Nanjing, a city that typified
the war-torn Second World War, is now an International City of Peace, making it
easier for people around the world to learn more about the long history of the
Chinese people's love and pursuit of peace. From "City of Terror" to "City of
Peace," Nanjing's change of fortune is a testament to how precious peace
is. China has long been a great nation with a strong ability to defend the
peaceful lives of its people, and is determined to defend world peace.
Remembering history, honoring the martyrs, cherishing peace and creating a
future, China's consistent vow of peace demonstrates its firm belief and
majestic power.
